EU: the muppet show continues – fake “civil society” wants more money out of taxpayers’ pockets

By J.C. von Krempach, J.D. | March 2, 2012

In a recent series of posts, we have informed the public of the European Commission’s strategy of “political ventriloquism”, i.e., the strange fact that the EU’s executive shovels millions of Euros into a small number of fake “non-governmental organizations”, financing between 70 and 80% of their budgets and treating them as privileged interlocutors on a wide variety of sensitive policy issues. These groups claim to be “civil society”. Speaking on behalf of us all, they lend rhetoric support to Anti-Discrimination Directives, gender quotas, and other absurdities for which no support could ever be found in the real world outside the EU bureaucracy.

While real civil society expresses astonishment and dismay about this strange way of spending taxpayers’ money (having originated on this blog, the issue is currently discussed on more than 1000 blogs worldwide, including in French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Dutch, Czech, Slovak, Danish, Greek, Polish, Lithuanian, Romanian, Russian, and Finnish…), the fake civil society meets next week to discuss the subject that appears to be closest to their hearts:

Quite appropriately, we find the European Commission’s preferred sock puppets all united on one poster. All participating “non-governmental organizations” are artificially kept alive with taxpayers’ money, and not a single one among them is actually funded by those it claims to represent! And what is the subject of the seminar? “Putting equality in the Multiannual Financial Framework 2014 – 2020”

For all those not familiar with the polit-jargon used in the EU institutions: “equality” is the code word for a controversial policy agenda inspired by Marxism for which there is hardly any support in the real citizenship, which is why the European Commission relies on organizations like AGE, ILGA-Europe, the European Women’s Lobby, the European Youth Forum, etc. to create the false appearance of public support. “Putting equality in the Multiannual Financial Framework” translates into: how can we perpetuate our own sinecures at the expense of taxpayers? How can we, in a time of financial crisis, while all Member States must cut back on their spending, make sure that the funding we receive from the EU continues to increase? How can we obtained that funding is provided to us under long term grants that are difficult to rescind and that cover our operating costs (rather than any concrete projects that are of demonstrable value for EU citizens)?

The meeting features a Director from the Commission’s Directorate General for Justice (which is under the aegis of Viviane Reding, a politician with particularly close links to the LGBT lobby), and is organized by the European Parliament’s LGBT group.

Ye sock puppets of the world unite! This is going to be a real political Muppet Show. We will be there to inform you of the event.
