Spain’s Last Hope Against New Abortion Law

By C-Fam Staff | June 2, 2010

Yesterday, the Spain’s conservative Popular Party challenged the new abortion law, set to take effect early next week.

The party filed an appeal with the Constitutional Court stating that, the new law violates the constitution which recognizes that “everyone has the right to life.” The party goes on to state that the new law does not protect those who are not yet born, especially those in the 14th week of pregnancy.

Many are waiting anxiously to hear the outcome of what may be the last attempt to get this new law, that allows abortion up to 14 weeks and allows 16 and 17 year olds to have an abortion without their parents consent, thrown out.
