Archbishop Migliore Speaks out Against Population Control

By C-Fam Staff | December 15, 2009

While media outlets focus on the Pope’s statement today reinforcing the Catholic Church’s long held teaching on the importance of environmental stewardship, Archbishop Migliore, Permanent Observer at the UN, speaks out against the dangers of using the environment as an excuse to enact population control measures:

Global warming depends on indiscriminate and very high consumption, not on the number of inhabitants of the earth. In fact, contamination is particularly intense and devastating precisely in regions of great development, which in general have minimum birth rates. If we wish to find effective solutions to the scourging of the ecological patrimony, we must concentrate our attention on the authentic causes.
