Croatian Teacher Sued for “Hate Speech” for Doing her Job
An eighth grade religion teacher in Zagreb, Croatia has recently been sued for “hate speech” for teaching her students on the issue of Christian morality that same-sex attractions were a “disease”. The claim brought by a Zagreb based LGBT NGO is seeking a fine of approximately one month’s salary from the teacher. Perhaps most shocking about this particular case is that the teacher in question’s defense is that her teaching was fully in line with the government approved textbook from which she was giving the lesson. Furthermore, she claims that her teaching was fully in line with mainstream Catholic teaching, which is the predominate religion in Croatia. It would seem, as the case goes forward, that religious teaching in line with both government approved textbooks and Catholic moral theology can be considered as “hate-speech” simply for offending the wrong person.
