Family Planning Conclave: Drones to Deliver Birth Control

By Lisa Correnti | January 28, 2016

Where there’s a will – there’s a way!

A recent update at the International Family Planning conference in Bali revealed drones are being used to deliver contraception to women and girls in remote regions. A successful pilot program in Ghana funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) has prompted the program to be expanded to six additional African countries.

You’ve got to hand it to family planning activists – they are relentless. What a shame we don’t have the same will to eradicate child and maternal mortality as we do to slow poor women from having children. While family planning activists take credit for averted women and infant deaths  — no amount of birth control pills, injectables or implants will save the lives of at risk pregnant women or vulnerable newborns.
