For years the Global Justice Center has been pressuring the Obama administration to gut the Helms amendment allowing US humanitarian aid to cover abortion. Currently humanitarian groups that receive US funding stay clear of abortion politics focusing on delivering aid to those most in need in both areas of conflict and disaster.

The awful situation of hundreds of girls being kidnapped by Boko Haram has allowed this group and other pro-abortion groups to amplify their demands for a policy change for US funded “humanitarian abortion.”

GLC and others are reporting that two-thirds of the kidnapped girls are pregnant — however the United Nations Population Fund who is currently addressing the health needs of the former captive girls — denies this number. The reported 215 number of pregnancies, is the women and girls that are pregnant in an IDC camp in Borno.

Whether these girls are pregnant or not they are certain to need services that will address their emotional and physical needs — including prenatal care if that is the case. Abortion groups should concern themselves with providing these and not advancing their own singular agenda.
