Making a Wrong Turn at the Intersection

The Youth Coalition – a youth sexual rights advocacy group – is looking to use the High-Level Meeting on Youth for sex rights, and is looking to combine their advocacy work with environmental, sustainable development, and other movements. They produce a publication called The Watchdog, and will be using it to advocate for sexual and reproductive health and rights at the UN Youth Conference.

Here’s a bit from their call for articles, for The Watchdog that they will distribute at the HLM on Youth July 25-26.

1) Exploring intersections between youth sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and other youth movements (e.g. environmental, political participation, sustainable development, etc.)

2) Reflections on the International Year of Youth (e.g. what young people advocated for during the IYY, challenges young people encountered during IYY, youth SRR advocacy priorities beyond the IYY)

3) Reflections on the youth SRHR agenda towards 2015 (e.g. what are young people looking for beyond the IYY? how can we build on this momentum, to ensure that our voices are heard in the next development agenda? What strategies are young people using to hold their governments accountable to commitments made to youth SRHR?)

With such a call for SRHR intersection with environmental and sustainable development, one has to ask if the SRHR movement has trouble standing on its own at the UN.
