Mr. Ban is up for Another Round

By Contributor | June 27, 2011

Last week, the UN’s General Assembly approved Mr. Ban Ki-Moon for another term as president of the General Assembly.

Mr. Ban’s priorities for action in his coming term include a focus on women and children’s health (as outlined in last year’s Global Strategy for Women and Children’s Health), and on preventing violence against women, as well as climate change and disarmament.

UN reform will also be on Mr. Ban’s agenda in the coming years. With fiscal restrictions tightening their purse strings, many countries, including the US, are calling for a reduction in the UN’s bloated bureaucracy and a mored disciplined budget.
