OAS’ Secretary General to visit Paraguay. Venezuela or LGBT?
Next Wednesday, the Secretary General of the Organization of the American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, will participate in the meeting of the ministers of social development in Asunción. Twenty-four countries will be represented. The main theme of the visit? The opportunity of applying the Democratic Charter of the OAS to Venezuela.
Venezuela is accused of violating its constitutional order and, according to many, it should be called to restoration of democracy. Almagro already invoked the Democratic Charter’s application and this topic was already addressed, last month, at an extraordinary meeting of the Permanent Council, in Washington DC. It was a heated debate.
Nonetheless, government officials of Venezuela are not the only ones worrying. Pro-life activists and Paraguayan pro-family organizations are afraid that the Secretary General of the OAS will take this meeting as a further chance to promote controversial social agendas.
The title of the meeting, indeed, suggests that the debate could easily extend to the promotion of “new rights” that the government of Paraguay clearly and boldly opposed: “Equity and social inclusion: Overcoming inequalities towards a more inclusive society”.
Pro-family and pro-life activists know very well that “social inclusion” is too often the catch-word used by LGBT advocates to introduce rights to homosexual “families,” for homosexual adoptions, etc. The meeting also claims to aim at fighting “poverty”. Nonetheless, pregnancy – and especially “unwanted” or “teenage” pregnancies – have been depicted by the agencies of the OAS, and by its “experts’ committees”, as a permanent cause of poverty in Latin America.
In light of these fears, pro-life and pro-family organizations are mobilizing their people. They are twitting, they are contacting politicians and the press. They want the President of Paraguay, Horacio Cartes, to reiterate his great commitment to the defense of babies, of mothers, of families.
