The New Canadian Family: How the North American Family is changing and changing fast.

By Maria Kaufmann | October 3, 2012

According to one of the latest Statistics Canada documents, “Portraits of Families and Living Arrangements in Canada: Families, households and marital status, 2011 Census of Population,” Canadian households have undergone substantial change since the last Census in 2006.

Among the reported findings, the document notes increases in lone- parent families, same sex couple families (“42.4% from 2006″1), child-less families (now 44.5% of families), and common- law couples (“more than four times the 3.1% increase for married couples”2).
