The US gave the president of Malawi an ultimatum: liberalize homosexuality laws in your country or lose $350 million in aid for your people.

The president refused to budge. The aid apparently went through on Thursday with assurances of “strong commitments” to human rights. According to the Huffington Post, Germany reduced its aid because homoseuxality laws were not recinded.
