Will USAID be Funding Abortions Worldwide?
Yesterday U. S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke on the future of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on the eve of the swearing in of its new administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah. An article by Foreign Policy states:
Clinton has made it clear that she wants the elevation of the development mission to be a key part of her legacy as secretary, but it remains to be seen how that will be implemented bureaucratically and whether USAID will enjoy the policy and budget independence that was stripped away from the organization during the Bush administration.
Known as the Mexico City Policy, the Bush Administration forbade USAID from “granting family planning funds to foreign abortion providers or promoters.”
In Clinton’s speech she states:
Non-profits like the Gates Foundation, CARE, Oxfam International, and the Clinton Foundation bring their own resources, deep knowledge, extensive networks, and commitment to humanitarian missions that complement our work in critical ways.
In 2009, the Gates Foundation was one of the top donors of the Clinton Foundation, by giving over $25 million. As reported by the Friday Fax in the past the Gates Foundation is known for giving millions to Planned Parenthood Federation International (IPPF) one of the largest abortion providing organization and money to other pro-abortion groups like the International Women’s Health Coalition (IWHC).
If USAID receives “policy and budget independence” and monies from foundations likes these, the US will no doubt be funding millions of abortions overseas. Clinton has already stated for the record that she believes abortion is a foreign policy option.
