Female Frontrunners for Secretary General
UNITED NATIONS, August 14 (C-Fam) – Two women have emerged from the first-round poll for the next Secretary General of the United Nations. Costa Rica’s Rebeca Grynspan and Guyana’s Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett received the most “encourage” votes by the U.N. Security Council and will work to consolidate support before the next vote in late August.

Pope Names Lebanese Archbishop to UN
UNITED NATIONS, July 31, (C-Fam) – Pope Leo XIV has named Lebanese-born Maronite Catholic Archbishop Christophe-Zakhia El-Kassis as the Holy See’s new Permanent Observer to the United Nations. Abp. El-Kassis will succeed Italian Archbishop Gabriele G. Caccia, who served at the U.N. since 2019 and was recently named papal nuncio to the United States.
