The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a human rights mechanism conducted in Geneva, Switzerland, under the UN Human Rights Council, beginning in 2008.
In the UPR, each UN member country undergoes a review of its human rights record on a cyclical basis, and unlike other UN human rights processes carried out by experts and expert committees, in the UPR, each country’s fulfillment of their human rights obligations is reviewed by its fellow countries. Civil society organizations like C-Fam are also invited to contribute their own country-level reports ahead of reviews, highlighting areas of progress or concern.
See below for C-Fam’s direct submissions to the UPR process as well as our coverage and analysis of the UPR mechanism.
