Trafficking in Persons for Sexual Exploitation: Addressing the Demand

The event is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of entry into force of the Palermo Protocol and will explore ways to reduce and eliminate demand for sex trafficking by bringing togeter representatives of the UN Members, academia, civil society and victims.

The event will feature the latest work of Benjamin Nolot, President and CEO, Exodus Cry, a prominent anti-trafficking activist and filmmaker. The acclaimed film “Buying Her”, which will be screened during the event, analyzes the real life stories of sex buyers and victims of sex trafficking with a view to help policymakers decide on the best course to reduce and eventually eliminate the kind of demand for sex that leads to sex trafficking.

Official description of Film: Men who purchase sex are the root of sex trafficking. Buying Her tackles this critical injustice as the first documentary ever to explore the lives of sex buyers and what drives them. Through raw firsthand accounts from both sex buyers and trafficking survivors, the film lays bare the mens’ journeys from childhood exposure to pornography, to becoming hardened predators, to what ultimately turned their lives around. Their heart-wrenching stories provide a beacon of hope for the restoration of broken and hurting men, the accountability of perpetrators, and the ending of sex trafficking.
