An Appeal to the New Polish President

President Trump welcoming the new Polish president in the Oval Office

WASHINGTON DC, September 19 (C-Fam) Poland has been a longtime disappointment to the pro-life and pro-family movement at the United Nations. Even when they have had good governments in Warsaw, this has rarely translated into pro-life and pro-family positions at negotiations in New York or Geneva.

But Poland has strong pro-life laws domestically, we are told. And this is true. Nonetheless, this has never translated to the UN. Poland tends to remain in lockstep with the European Union.

We at C-Fam are called “maximalists” for our insistence that Poland negotiate in a pro-life and pro-family way at the UN. What is it to negotiate in a pro-life and pro-family way at the UN? It means ensuring that none of the abortion code words are accepted into UN documents. These include “reproductive health,” “reproductive health and rights,” “sexual rights,” “sexual orientation and gender identity.”  These phrases are used to build an international requirement to legalize abortion and homosexual coupling.

It means standing up to the Germans, and the French, the Nordic countries. It means standing up to what is a maximalist anti-life and anti-family position of the European Union. It means breaking the EU consensus. In some cases, it is enough for one country to break the EU consensus, in others they make decisions by qualified majority. In both cases, Poland should have its own pro-life and pro-family foreign policy regardless of what the EU decides, as any self-respecting sovereign state should do.

This is an appeal to the new president of Poland. Your party has been criminalized by the party in control these past years. They have attempted to do to you what they attempted to do to Trump. Our hope is that you are now radicalized like Trump and his people have become radicalized. We hope you will know what you are up against and that you will come out swinging at all levels, including the UN.

Consider what Trump has done domestically but also consider what he is doing at the UN. Within 14 days of his inauguration, he sent representatives into the executive board meeting of UNICEF and demanded UNICEF end all programs related to “gender ideology.” He lost, but he tried. And then a few weeks later he did the same thing at the executive board meeting at UN Women.

Trump learned valuable lessons while he was in the political wilderness and under criminal attack. Have you?

What happens if you fail this or that attempt to stand firm at the UN? You make statements. You make reservations. You make it clear that you do not agree. This is persistent objection that resonates in international law.

An American working for Orban in Hungary recently told a friend that no one cares about what happens at the UN. I will tell you who cares. The left. The left is using the UN to advance the sexual revolution through law all over the world just biding their time waiting for people like you to be out of power. Do you care what happens when the left is back in power in your country? Do you care what happens to smaller and less powerful nations than yours? Many small African countries take huge risks by standing up to the UN agencies, the European Union, and all the powerful NGOs that come hunting for the bodies and souls of their people. What will you do?

Be like Burundi. Burundi is small and poor. They need all the aid and development money they can get but they are willing to risk it to keep bad international programs from their women and children.

We know you now have a mixed government and that you cannot do all that you may want. But you can do this.
