The Worst of the UN in 2025

UNITED NATIONS, December 26 (C-Fam) Despite the Trump administration, real threats to life continued at the United Nations this year. The biggest threat to life and family in the world continues to be the European Union and its allies in the UN bureaucracy.

1. Abortion Extremism Gets Worse Year-to-Year

C-Fam’s new human rights database shows how pressure from UN human rights mechanisms on pro-life governments is a one way ratchet. It does not let up once they allow abortion. Pressure grows until they allow abortion-on-demand and become radicalized abortion advocates themselves. C-Fam’s human rights database also shows how in the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), where governments evaluate each other’s human right records, governments that once were pro-life, like Ireland and Mexico, are now putting pressure on others to adopt abortion-on-demand. The abused become the abusers.

2. World Health Organization Attacks Conscience Rights

The EU-led World Health Organization wants countries to outlaw conscientious objection to performing abortions and providing abortion referrals. The global health body released a second edition of its 2022 guideline on abortion, with what appears to be the sole purpose of including harsher language against conscientious objection to the practice of abortion by health care providers.  Where this mischief may have been assuaged by the United States under Donald Trump, Trump has withdrawn American support.

3. EU Turbocharges Censorship of Conservatives

The EU Commission adopted standards requiring all AI developers and tech companies to censor and moderate any content on general-purpose artificial intelligence (AI) models to prevent “hate” and “discrimination.” The new regulation has the potential to turbocharge censorship and social control on all major tech platforms. Along with the notorious EU Digital Services Act, it is expected to lead to censorship across all major technology platforms. Without any doubt, the censorship will be directed toward conservatives, and pro-life and pro-family actors.

4. General Assembly Expands Global Censorship Regime

It is not just the EU that is gung-ho for censorship, the General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for UN sponsored global censorship programs under the guise of combating “disinformation” and “hate speech.” The United States, Argentina, and Paraguay were the only three governments to vote against the resolution. The resolution ratifies the global censorship regime launched by the Biden administration and the European Union to suppress populism and asks the UN Secretary General and other UN bodies to adopt global censorship policies. Much of this can be seen as a backlash against the advances of pro-life and pro-family groups at the UN, including C-Fam.

5. General Assembly President Shows European Plan to Wait Out Trump

Europeans do not like the U.S. government under Donald Trump. Their disdain was never more visible than when the German President of the UN General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock, controversially pushed a global health agreement over the objections of the U.S. government. A U.S. delegate challenged the legality of the agreement and lost the vote, badly. Only Argentina and Israel voted with the United States. Baerbock’s was a calculated gamble to isolate the Trump administration, and it worked. It was the most blatant display of the European strategy to ignore, obstruct, and wait out the Trump administration.
