U.S. House Creates Family Caucus

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 7 (C-Fam) U.S. House Republicans have announced the formation of the Congressional Family Caucus to combat what they see as the onslaught of progressive legislation over family matters.

Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-IL), alongside Reps. Diana Harshbarger (R-TN) and Brian Babin (R-TX) said they created the new caucus to “defend the natural family from attempts by the radical left to erode this core foundation of our society.

She said, “The left advances abortion, fatherlessness, surgical castration, and atheism. These woke progressives attempt to diminish parental rights by eliminating parental consent and replacing families with the state.”

The caucus arrives as several U.S. states have started to restrict abortion and transgender surgical procedures, while the left pushes legislation to reverse conservative initiatives.

The Congressional left responded almost immediately by creating the Equal Rights Amendment Caucus.

Representatives Cori Bush (D-MO) and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) say the progressive caucus’s priorities are abortion, gender ideology, and bodily autonomy. “It is timely and it is necessary with women and LGBTQ folks facing daily sexism, pregnancy discrimination, pay inequity, sexual violence, and persistent legislative attacks on our bodily autonomy,” said Pressley at the launch of the caucus, “we need the ERA now.” The proposed Equal Rights Amendment died many years ago as not enough states ratified it in time.

Representative Bush claimed that the Equal Rights Amendment ensures “Congress makes institutional gender equality a national priority…What does equal vision for the future look like? It looks like protection of abortion care.”

Two days after the announcement of the ERA Caucus, Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) introduced the “Transgender Bill of Rights,” a House resolution to enshrine transgender rights. Surgical castration, mastectomies, hormone and puberty blockers, and other medical alterations are described as “lifesaving, gender-affirming care” in the resolution, alongside support for biological males to compete in women’s sports and use women’s facilities, school compliance with preferred pronouns, liberty from parental consent for youth, and other tenets of trans dogma.

Despite the progressive policies of United Nations agencies which align with the ERA Caucus and “Transgender Bill of Rights”, the principles of the Congressional Family Caucus are established in Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states, “the family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society” and that parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children,” human rights that are overlooked by the left for the sake of abortion and gender ideology.

Under the Biden administration, abortion, gay/trans rights, and sexual autonomy are matters of international security. Left-wing activists and politicians not only reinforce this agenda in the United States but continue to export it in foreign policy and aid. While domestic issues are prioritized, the Congressional Family Caucus has yet to explicitly include family and life-oriented foreign policy in its public goals.
